Short Curriculum Vitae
Since 1995 Martijn P.F. Berger is full professor at the Department Methodology and Statistics of the Faculty of f Health Sciences, University of Maastricht, the Netherlands.
After his master degree study at the University of Leiden he was appointed assistent professor at the University of Tilburg, where he received his Ph.D. in 1985 with a thesis on the application of the generalized multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) model to time-structured data. His research mainly included investigations on (generalized) linear models applied to behavioral, social and medical sciences measurement problems, with special emphasis on longitudinal analysis of time structured data. In 1987 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Twente, Department of Educational Measurement and Data analysis. Here he performed research on optimal designs and item response theory (IRT) models. Especially the design problems around different achievement test forms were studied with optimal design methodology applied to item response theory models.
Recent research projects include optimal test and sampling designs, design problems in multilevel research and random-effects models and he has published various papers and book chapters on these topics.
He has a broad experience in teaching statistical methods and research methodology in bachelor, master and Ph.D courses, including summer courses. He also has a broad experience as statistical consultant for social, health and medical scientists. Finally, he has been member and chairman of various university, faculty and professional committee's, boards and editorial boards.
